Debmarine Namibia sponsored 84 new chairs and 42 double tables to Okondaunue Primary School (PS) in Opuwo district on Tuesday, which is expected to drastically reduce pressure on learners who have been sharing chairs and desks at the school.
The chairs and desks worth more than N$ 60 000 came at the right time according the School Principal Rosa Tjeundo. The learners at her school have been sharing chairs and tables. “We are very much grateful with all the support we have received as they have contributed greatly towards creating a better and conducive learning environment for our learners,” she said.
Okondaunue Primary School was established in 2015 as a satellite school from Opuwo Primary School with 260 learners but today, the school boasts 745 learners from grade 1 – 7.
Opuwo Mayor and education inspector Albert Tjiuma said Okondaunue Primary School is among several satellite schools in Opuwo that was indeed in dire need of chairs and table and classrooms, as some learners attend school in the afternoons because there are not enough classrooms.
Special Advisor to Kunene Governor Moses Tjipura !Omeb thanked Debmarine Namibia for helping the school and called on other stakeholder to assist with more resources to help alleviate the challenges the school faces, adding that the future of the Namibian child is in education.
