Business at the Bar

Its been famously said “its not what you know but who you know”, and that seems to have motivated Zeronine Media to come with a unique engagement idea to being like-minded people together.

A company passionate about creating and sustaining brands, they operate on 3 pillars, namely strategic communications, media relations and corporate & contemporary public relations.

With the understanding that most business affiliations and associations begin with having a network of skills and contacts, Zeronine Media has launched an event called ‘The Business Bar’, the brain-child of Tanya Daringo under the auspices of the media company.

“I realised that there are not any platforms allowing for these kinds of conversations. When I say allow, I mean deliberately having these spaces where you talk business to business,” says Tanya.

The idea is to create a space where business people, established and new businesses alike, can gather, with the main aim of exchanging ideas and getting to know and understand each other and each other’s businesses.

In turn, it is hope that this would lead to more cooperation and opportunities to collaborate and grow and empower the Namibian business community.

“I wanted to create a space where everyone is coming with the same intention; to talk business but also at the same time keeping it short, about 2 hours, and keeping it very strategic to the space. Even the venue is very strategic, we want a space where conversations can flow and which is aesthetically pleasing.”

That identified venue is the Windhoek Palm Hotel situated at the corner of Beethoven and Simpson Streets, Windhoek West.

It is an entrenched and well-reputed establishment, situated centrally for ease of access and which will be the home of “The Business Bar” for at least the next 3 months.

With the way that life and business are changing and evolving continually, there is no question that business ideals and deals are brokered more and more in previously unorthodox venues and settings than in the boardroom. In fact golf courses are said to have become our new boardrooms and the ‘real’ deals are signed over a single grained whiskey before hitting to the high-stakes tables.

Networking is the process of interacting with others in order to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.

Business networking is the process of establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with other business people and potential clients and/or customers. The primary purpose of business networking is to tell others about your business and hopefully turn them into clients or partners.

There exists a need to meet and communicate with potential clients and business partners on a regular basis to maintain business relationships.

Attending business luncheons and other networking events raises your personal and your business profile and helps keep you front and centre in the right people’s minds.

Zeronine Media has identified and is filling that gap, by providing a platform for local and international business enthusiasts to talk business to business over a drink at “The Business Bar”.

“I think it is important. People are always looking for something new and something fresh, business ideas,” Doringo says.

“The Business Bar” looks to be a monthly pop-up event for both the established and the budding business enthusiast to relax, mingle and talk shop with like-minded business people.

The opportunity to unwind and share industry related insight, news, tips and trade will go a long way to create synergy in the business market.

Most business people are naturally optimistic and remain positive. Regularly associating with such people can be a morale boost, especially in the early phases and in the difficult moments of a business.

The inaugural event was held last night (2nd May) to good reviews and with great anticipation for the next one.
