Warriors to camp near Egypt ahead of AFCON

The Brave Warriors who are in group D alongside neighbour South Africa, Morocco and Ivory Coast are likely to set up camp in the northern part of the continent ahead of the AFCON clash coach Ricardo Mannetti said week.
Though he didn’t give the exact date and country in which they are going to place their camp, Mannetti said the team will in all likelihood travel to north Africa for training before they will play their opening match against Morocco on the 23rd of June at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
The Brave Warriors mentor said the reason of setting up camp close to Egypt was to let players adapt to the conditions which they will be expected to play in.
“We will pick a country where we will set our camp and conduct training and friendly games but it has to be somewhere close to Egypt. The reason being is that we want our players to get used to the climate which is more like the weather in Egypt. We will play against teams similar to those with whom we are in the group.”
The Brave Warriors are in group D, often referred the “group of death”.
The former Santos FC midfielder is upbeat that they will cause an upset at the cup.
“Firstly we have to agree that it’s a big group that we are placed in. I am still excited that it’s going to be a test for us and though we are not aspiring to win the trophy, it will be upon us to set the benchmark for ourselves and hopefully we will surprise the whole continent.”
Brave Warriors have played the three countries a total of 19 times – Ivory Coast (4), Morocco (5) and South Africa (8).
They will kick-off the tournament against powerhouses Morocco on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
Four days after the opening match, Ricardo Mannetti and his band of warriors will take on neighbour South Africa (Friday, June 28) and round off the group stages with a tricky encounter against Cote d’Ivore on Monday, July 1.
Should Namibia progress to the knockout stages, they will take part in the Round of 16 beginning on July 5, with the quarter-finals on July 10/11, the semi-finals on July 14 and the final taking place on July 19th.
