Nation mourns the death of Desie Heita

President Hage Geingob yesterday expressed deep sadness after he learned of the untimely death of 39-year-old Associate Editor of New Era Publications Corporation, Desiewaar Heita.
Heita died yesterday morning at his house due to an alleged freak accident.
Geingob in a media release praised the late Heita’s excellent contributions to the growth of Namibia’s media landscape.
“Without Mr Heita, the media landscape has lost a diligent and committed journalist” said Geingob.
The President further extended his sincere sympathies to the bereaved family, family and colleagues of the late Heita.
New Era Publications Corporation CEO Audrin Mathe regarded the late Heita as having been a valued member of the New Era team since joining in 2008.
“His work has touched lives across the width and breadth of our nation and wished his family strength during this difficult time” he said.
Managing editor at New Era, Toivo Ndjebela who was a close friend and colleague to the late Heita noted that he will always remember him as an embodiment of professionalism in the true sense of the word.
“He took his job seriously and would not allow his by-line to sit on a Mickey Mouse story which was something he would always say. He was organised and never rushed stories until he had all the facts in” said Ndjebela.
Ndjebela further highlighted that the late Heita understood that journalism was not an eight to five job and would thus always ask Ndjebela whether there was anything Ndjebela wanted him to do before he left work for home.
“If I answer affirmatively he would jump to the task right away. Namibia journalism would be poorer without him.
The late Heita started as a business reporter at the Namibia Economist. He then moved to serve as senior reporter at New Era where he was then promoted to editor of the Oshiwambo supplement of the weekly Kundana newspaper while at the same time also managed the New Era business desk.
