Grootfontein ready for 2018 Skorpion Zinc U17 Cup

It’s all systems go for the 2018 Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup set for Omulunga Stadium, Grootfontein this  weekend as 14 regional under-17 sides battle it out for supremacy in the fifth edition of the developmental tournament.
With all the roads leading to Grootfontein to support the best young talents in the land, organisers of the 2018 Skorpion Zinc under-17 Cup affirmed that all is ready to roll as Omusati region aims to make it four out of five against 13 other contenders when the action starts today at the Omulunga Stadium.
Nora Ndopu, Corporate Affairs Manager at Skorpion Zinc reiterated that the zinc-mining giant’s support to the development of local football, echoes Rukoro’s zeal to provide platforms on which young footballers can showcase their skills. “The relationship with the NFA has been a fruitful one over the past years and we are looking forward to this edition. We know how crucial development is and we could not have been better placed with this competition. Our commitment to this competition is very profound and driven by the passion of all, from the players to the national team selectors and the supporters,” Ndopu says.
Khomas won the inaugural Skorpion Zinc under 17 Cup in 2013 at Keetmanshoop, while in 2014, 2015 and in 2017, Omusati Region made it three out of three. In 2016, the competition was not held.
Skorpion Zinc has invested N$ 1.4 Million into the competition and  also offers the incentive of two players who will be identified by the NFA and travel to India to join the Vendetta’s SESA Football Academy that also offers the youngers an opportunity to study.
Former Brave Warriors midfielder and Mayor of Okahandja Congo Hindjou is the Competition Ambassador and led the trophy tour that started at Rosh Pinah last week and also toured Keetmanshoop.
Today, Hardap takes on Oshana, followed by Otjozondjupa against Kavango East and then Ohangwena versus Omaheke. Altogether, nine matches each will be played today and tomorrow with eight reserved for Sunday and four for Monday.
Host Otjozondjupa are drawn in Group A, with Kavango East, Hardap and Kunene. Group B has Kavango West, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Omaheke and Erongo, while group C has //Karas, Omusati, Khomas and Zambezi.
