The Windhoek Comedy Showdown is an international comedy show brought to you by Namibian born but Johannesburg based comedian Waylene Beukes, The Mango Room and Native Management.
Speaking to Beukes earlier this week she noted that from her perspective the comedy industry was one that existed in Namibia but saw that there was a much bigger need to create a culture of getting more Namibians to attend comedy shows.
“In Johannesburg every one attends comedy shows and I want to show my Namibian people that comedy relates to everyone through this show. We do not have to limit ourselves, one does not have to be an art liker to attend comedy shows and this is what we are trying to bring forth through this show”.
She further noted that there is a need to break down segregations, there performing acts that are coming from South Africa are acts that anyone can relate to.
“There will be jokes for everyone, befitting jokes for the youngsters and adults. I plan to have this annually. I have also gotten in contact with a few other local Namibians to also just help with the line-up. So that there can be an incorporation of both Namibia and South African comedians”.
The show will include main acts such as Dillan Oliphant, Ebenhaezer Dibakwane and Thabiso Mhlongo who are all winners of the Savannahs Comic Choice Award for best new comers.
Dillan is also said to have won Comedy Central’s Roast Battle and Ebenhaezer is a well-known face from Dancing with the Stars and Netflix’s’ Catching Feelings. Many of the other performing acts are also not strangers to the screen.
Host of the showdown namely Prins VR, Bongani Dube and Tsitsi Chiumya are very well acquainted with the comedy industry and will definitely be interesting to look out for.
Prins VR on the sidelines told The Lounge that the showdown promises to be of high quality featuring a cast of one of the hottest up and coming comedians.
“I am not sure what kind of comedy shows Namibia usually hosts but we are excited to show case what we have to offer because we have travelled from very far for this”.
The aim is to bring a little laugh and light into the cold winter and bring together all ages and races of people together. This show is said to be for anyone who enjoys a good laugh.
The show is happening today as from 19h00 at Franco Namibia. Tickets are available at Events Today for N$120 and for N$150 at the door.
