Importance of families under the spotlight

The founder and president of the Family Policy Institute in South Africa Errol Naidoo, who was in Namibia this week, underscored the importance of united families and their influence society. In celebration of the 76th birthday of the President of the Republic of Namibia Hage Geingob the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) hosted a breakfast yesterday in Windhoek under the theme ‘Family the Centre of all Social Policy’.

Naidoo cautioned that societies crumble when the family crumbles because they[families] are the most fundamental unit of any. “The UN recognises natural family because they know it is the most fundamental building unit of society which bears the primary responsibility for the protection, development and nurturing of children in an environment that serves the children’s needs. For this reason governments must focus on strong social development policies because healthy and stable families produce strong, healthy, stable and prosperous societies,” he said.  He further commented on the United Nation’s human rights council resolution that declares family as the natural and fundamental group unit of society and it’s entitlement to protection by society.

Naidoo further noted that the terrible consequences of family breakdown are clearly apparent in today’s South African society. “Crime and violence, drug and alcohol abuse, school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, abortion, women and child abuse, rape of women and children, prostitution homosexuality are all on the increased and are linked directly to family breakdown and dysfunction,” he said. Naidoo also linked the increase of child on child sexual abuse to the freely online availability of pornography to children.

According to Naidoo, the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) which is the brainchild of International Planned Parenthood Federation’s ultimate aim is to change the sexual and gender norms of society. “Comprehensive Sexuality Education is a Trojan horse coming in disguise as human rights as sexuality education to help young women and boys but in fact it is the sexual right’s agenda to change the gender norms of African society, to change our norms and understandings of human sexuality and of institutions like marriage and the family institutions God has given us.

The most diabolical thing CSE aims to do intend the undermining of parental authority by bypassing parents and directly indoctrinating school children with unnatural and high rate sexual practices. The programme also encourages children to embrace homosexuality and experiment with bizarre sexual practices,” he adds.

Naidoo also encouraged the Namibian Nation to stand strong on the timeless values saying that the future, prosperity and stability depends on how marriage and family is protected as the foundational institutions. Most governments lack the political will to identify and address the root causes of family breakdown and dysfunction. Governments should however develop and implement policies that promote healthy and stable families,” he stated.
The occasion was attended by the President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos, together with senior Government officials and the public.
At the same occasion, the CEO of Momentum Asset Management Lesley Rukoro congratulated the President on the occasion of his 76th birthday and thanked him for dedicating his life to serve the Namibian nation.
