Miss Namibia remains relevant – Mia De Klerk

…Who will be Miss Nam 2017?

With the country’s biggest beauty pageant finding itself placed under scrutiny at times, Miss Namibia 2000 Mia De Klerk has defended the pageant by highlighting the pageant’s relevance to date.

“I believe that the Miss Namibia pageant remains relevant because it does not only celebrate outer beauty, but showcases the amazing talent, drive, ambition, intelligence and strength of our young women in Namibia from all walks of life. That is something worth celebrating,” she said.

She adds; “Miss Namibia opens doors if one is prepared to work hard at making the crowning year a success. In that sense, the pageant provides a platform for young women to showcase their talent and can be a stepping-stone into a successful future.”

It is exactly 17 years ago when the beauty added her name to the crowd and she says it has been an exciting journey. She has modelled in Europe, South Africa and Namibia. The beauty queen has been featured in European commercials and on the covers of various magazines worldwide. On top of representing the country at Miss Universe, De Klerk has won the titles of ‘Face of Africa’ and ‘Most Beautiful Face’ at the Miss World Pageant.

“The experience taught me many valuable lessons, and allowed me to grow as a person. It was by no means my only life defining moment, and we all can and should keep growing and expanding our horizons. Nevertheless it remains a wonderful experience to be able to represent my country and to connect with so many people.”

“To this day, I make a conscious effort to be both a local and an internationally ambassador for Namibia wherever I go, to be a strong role model for young ladies, and to be a positive influence on those I meet.”

Sharing on the responsibilities that come with the crown, De Klerk says everyone in their own right can contribute to be an ambassador for the country, and to be a role model for young women. “Life is what we make of it, and we should all try to maintain a positive attitude, to develop good work ethics, to build strong character and to have a humble heart that hopefully will be an example others want to follow.”

Well, all is set and ready for tomorrow and the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino will be the place to be for the crowning of the new Miss Namibia 2017. It will be a night filled with amazing glitzy gowns and show-stopping bikini cladded bodies.

One of the 12 ladies; Delsie Somaes, Elizabeth Ipinge, Karen Beukes, Leon van Jaarsweld, Liandre Claases, Martha Kamati, Romilly Mouton, Sabina Samuel, Sunet van Schalkwyk, Tessia Mutwamezi, Sune January or Zandria Swart will take the main crown.

The red carpet event starts at 19h00 and the main event kicks off at 20h00. Tickets go for N$400.
