For the 17th consecutive year, year for Top Score 7-a-side competition will kick off today at the Ramblers Stadium in the capital. The annual event has created a dedicated community of sports players and fans and at the launch held in the capital on Wednesday, teams from cooperate companies and football enthusiasts were buzzing with excitement in anticipation of the first whistle with a heavy log.
According to Namib Mills, the Top Score 7 – A -Side tournament is aimed at community upliftment and engagement, it is the company’s way of rewarding those dedicated and disciplined sportsman who continue to support this tournament.
The competition comes a long way as collaborative efforts with the Ramblers Sport Club.
“Against the background of the Namibian football fraternity which is experiencing difficulties in attracting sponsors for the beautiful game, Ramblers Football club is particularly proud of its longstanding and continued win-win relationship with Namib Mills and the Top Score brand and looks forward to welcoming all participating teams for the next few weeks. May “Fair Play” at all times prevail and may the Top Score 7-A-side tournament be a wonderful team building platform for many years to come,” said President of Ramblers Football Club Harald Hecht at the launch.
With the aim to keep encouraging and supporting the passion of football, the competition has expanded to Ongwediva and Walvis Bay, which has been said to be a resounding success. The winning team from the Top Score Coastal tournament and Top Score Northern tournaments will immediately go through to the knock-out stages.
“We believe that sports creates well rounded individuals and citizens in society. We are committed to Namibia and this sports initiative as it aids the company in investing in a vital stable in the development of our country,” said Ashante Manetti Namib Mills Public Relations Manager.
Supporting fans and family can look forward to another exciting tournament that caters for all ages. Team fans are encouraged to support their teams and stand a chance to win the title for best supported team with N$7000 in prize money.
Games will take place tonight at the Ramblers field as from 18h30 and they continue tomorrow as from 13h30. The tournament will see in excess of 70 teams from corporates battle on the field for the price of N$13 000 for the overall winner.
Runner up team takes N$ 8000, N$ 6 500 for the third place and then for fourth place takes N$ 2 500.
