We all have aspirations, aspirations of becoming whatever we dream to be. And if there is one feeling that I think everyone who has a goal has to deal with often, is self-doubt. OMG!!! I feel so guilty right now because I have chewed on self-doubt so many times and I am sure there are people who can relate.
Every time I think of the goals I have set for myself, questions like ‘will I really achieve that?’ ‘Will they even like my idea?’ or worse; thoughts of not being good enough accumulates my mind. Anxiety is often a major part of the equation.
Most of the times self-doubt is influenced by our environments because if you are surrounded by people who are less ambitious, people who see no potential within you then you are likely to most assuredly doubt yourself.
People are gonna tell you to tone down your ambitions and in just a matter of time you are likely to introduce doubt into your thinking to make room for errors that you are unlikely to make.
With time, doubt becomes a norm in one’s life and you eventually become a big ball of anxiety. I have been there and I have done that until such a time that I had to look back and realize how much I had missed out on for having paid more attention to the doubtful voice within me more than the encouraging confident voice.
One thing that we need to come to terms with is that whatever we pay attention to, will grow. Just like plants grow when they are well taken care of, anxiety, fear, and doubt also grow when you feed them by asking yourself questions that are aimed at crippling your spirit. For a moment, just imagine if only you fed your willingness.
One fact about confidence is that it doesn’t make you a cut above the line because you know more than others. It is because confident people BELIEVE that they can convey information, ideas, visions and goals in a better and more convincing fashion even when they don’t have the necessary tools available to them. They just know how to hone and perfect their craft.
I just want to tell you that you are capable of more than you think. In many instances, it is a matter of your mind over your actual ability. If you can win the battle in your mind, everything else is level ground.
It is also worth remembering that one cannot achieve anything by their own ability only. You need the support of God and His word; or else you will crash and burn trying to do everything on your own.
Are you still carrying doubt with you? No please leave it where it belongs. Focus more on what you can do to get to where you want to be, rather than what can go wrong to impede your progress. Win the battle in your mind, and take each day at a time.
Don’t stress about what will happen in five years. Let each day take care of itself and simply do your best.
Go for it, you are capable!
