Namibia bids farewell to HH

screen-shot-2016-10-14-at-10-57-07-amThe late Hidipo Hamutenya will be buried at the country’s national shrine tomorrow.

Hamutenya died last Thursday (6 October 2016) at the age off 77-years after battling with a long illness.

Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana said in a media statement that President Hage Geingob had conferred the ‘National Hero’ status on the late Hamutenya in terms of Sub-Article (8) of Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution.

Ua-Ndjarakana said the late Hamutenya’s memorial service will be held today at Parliament Gardens in Windhoek at 14:00, while the burial will take place at the Heroes’ Acre national monument.

All public and private institutions where requested  to ensure that the National Flag is flown at half-mast all over the country during the official period of mourning from Thursday to Saturday (13 to 15 October).

All other flags hoisted with the National Flag throughout the country should be withdrawn during the period of mourning.

Hamutenya was born on 17 June 1939 at Odibo in the Ohangwena Region. He went into exile early in 1961 and returned home in 1989.
