The Synergy for a Better Life – Gratitude

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude and instead complain more about what we don’t have. Just think about it, how often do you pause to appreciate what you have in life compared to the times you complain about what you want?  When I was a child, I took so much for granted. I refused the little that my parents could get for me without realizing that there were kids who didn’t have what I had. Losing my mom at a tender age, I felt that life was being unfair to me to such an extent that I thought God didn’t love me not realizing there were other kids who had none of their parents but at least I had caring uncles and aunts. After all, I was a child and didn’t know what life could be like on the other side.
But slowly as I grew up, I began to appreciate things around me more. As I saw more and more of the world out there, I realized all the things I’ve been given were not rights, but privileges. I realized that being literate is not a right, but a gift. I realized there is a lot of war and violence in the world and I’m lucky to live in a country where it’s safe and peaceful. I realized there are people out there who don’t have their five senses and to have mine is a gift. I learned that some people don’t have places to call home but I do. I’m sure many people can relate to this but this is not how we are supposed to live. We need to be thankful for any single thing that happens to us. Appreciate your parents for bringing you to life although they cannot afford all your needs, appreciate your family for being your closest kin in the world and your friends for being your companions in life. Appreciate that kind stranger who offers you help and appreciate your failures because only that way will you improve.
How is it that we wake up every blessed morning searching and looking for more while we never take time to give thanks for all that which comes naturally? Sometimes it’s easy to feel bad because you’re going through a tough time in life. However, remember that no matter how bad your situation may seem there are tens of thousands of things to be grateful for in life.  Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings as they say count your blessings one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Gratitude means noticing simple pleasures and acknowledging everything that one receives. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you have been given.
Gratitude helps our being become more with less stress. Yes gratitude releases the grace, it gives us wings and it pleases the giver of all things, God! Take a moment to say Thank You for all that you are – let it sink in. I understand that we don’t have it all but what are you grateful for? Is it love, health, life, friends or the job? Go ahead, say it!
