…Mungunda, Gawanas step in
The ruling Swapo Party’s commercial arm, Kalahari Holdings, has replaced Dr Kalumbi Shangula and Dr Elijah Ngurare on the Multichoice Board with Advocate Bience Gawanas and Milka Mungunda. Gawanas has been appointed as the new board chairperson. Roger Gertze, General Manager of MultiChoice Namibia, welcomed the new appointments, saying, “We are delighted about the strong additions to the Board of MultiChoice Namibia. In line with our purpose of enriching lives, their extensive experience will be a great benefit to MultiChoice, as we continue to actively contribute to the socio-economic development of Namibia through our business and corporate social investment activities.” Four days before her appointment to the MultiChoice Board, Mungunda was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Social Security Commission.
She formerly served in various positions, including General Manager of Operations at GIPF, Founding Director and Shareholder of One Africa Television, Director of SME Bank and Acting Registrar at UNAM. Gawanas served Namibia in various public portfolios in her capacity as member of the Public Service Commission, member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Namibia, Gender Law lecturer at the University of Namibia, Member and a Chairperson of the Law Reform and Development Commission and the Ombudswoman of Namibia. She also served as the African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs and Special Advisor to the Minister of Health and Social Services on policy and social issues.
Currently, she has been reassigned as Special Advisor on Poverty Eradication and Social Development to the Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, and continues to serve on international commissions and taskforces. Mungunda and Gawanas join Hennie Visser – Chief Financial Officer, MultiChoice Africa, Patricia van Rooyen – Regional Director of Southern Africa, MultiChoice Africa and Roger Gertze – General Manager: MultiChoice Namibia on the MultiChoice Board. Furthermore, Gertze expressed gratitude to Shangula, Ngurare and Nauta (outgoing alternate director, for their guidance and support during their tenure as directors of MultiChoice Namibia.
