Last week, Events Namibia launched the annual National Braai Festival which saw Ready Bites Meat Market taking top honours of the National Braai Master Competition at the Palm Tree Park in Windhoek. The event offered industrial stakeholders a national marketing platform and was meant to celebrate the spirit of the Namibian people unified under an umbrella event for all people regardless of race and creed. “The festival aimed to celebrate and acknowledge the quality of Namibian meat, poultry and fish and how they can be incorporated into a social braai culture. By making it child-friendly, our aim was also to attract families to come and enjoy the day with us,” said the organiser Simeon Aupokolo.

Simeon also added that there will be a National Braai tour that will take place soon and it will create a platform for tourists to tour the country and experience all Namibia has to offer while enjoying quality braai products. Creating community development, the National Braai Tour will also allow stalls to youth vendors in communities of five respective towns where the festival drives through. With an entrance fee of N$50 and kids free, every person got a free beef steak upon entering the premises. Park Foods Butchery, Ready Bites Meat Market as well as Panorama Butchery competed for the title in the Braai Master Competition which was judged by chefs from the Namibian Culinary Industry.

With all ingredients provided by the organisers to ensure a fair and equal opportunity for all to show cast their skills, the three butcheries started off with the chicken wings then moved on to the fish and the pork belly with only three hours given to braai. After each hour they had to present the dish to the judges where they had to taste and give the participants a score. Ready Bites Meat Market walked away victorious with the ultimate price and hampers courtesy of Tafel Lager. The runner-up were also consoled with participatory prices.
“We are very happy. We did not come here to win but to compete with our fellow business men. It was a good experience and we are hoping to be part of it next year again,” said a thankful member from the Ready Bites Meat Market. The outdoor event was filled with fun and games, Dj’s and a beer tent that locked a number of people with prizes that were given away.
