The Cosafa Castle Cup tour comes to Windhoek this weekend with key events aimed at spreading the cup fever days before Namibia hosts the continental cup.
The competition kicks off on June 11 to 25 in Windhoek and defending champions Brave Warriors are expected to fight their all to retain the cup once again.
After successful tours in Walvis Bay, Okahandja and Gobabis, the Cosafa Castle Cup Tour makes a stop at the UN Plaza this weekend and the Football for Hope with a 24-hour football bonanza to start at 18h00 on Saturday 04 June until the next day, offering a unique occasion for fans to enjoy a day-long feast of football.
Local Organising Committee Marketing and Communications chairman calls on the public to come out in numbers and get the country ready for the cup. “It’s all about the cup. We know that many people outside Windhoek might not get the opportunity to come to the games thus we are touring the country to give them the opportunity to at least see the cup and look forward to the blowing of the first whistle,” said Chalo Chainda.
In addition to the tour featuring the presence of current and previous national football legends, the weekend cup activation will feature a health awareness campaign themed ‘Stop cervical, breast and prostate cancer in SADC’ to be moderated by the health ministry.
The event has also opened doors to the corporate and social establishments to register their 5-a side teams for the football bonanza at a fee of N$2500. This money is aimed at building and renovating the Football For Hope sports facility.
“We want the stadiums to be full so it is only fair that the nation knows about the competition and ask people to come in numbers to support the teams.”
Come and meet your local football legends and get the opportunity to take a selfie with the cup. Local songbird Adora and other local artists are expected to grace the event the best of Namibian music.
