President Jacob Zuma congratulated SWAPO Party at the occassion of it’s 56th Anniversary, saying the African National Congress is there for Namibia’s ruling like it was during the liberation struggle.
Zuma was in the country on Wednesday when Swapo celebrated in 56th birthday.
During his two-day state visit to Namibia to discuss SACU matters, Zuma took time to remind his Namibian counterparts about the bitter struggle for liberation and hailed those who lost their lives.
“We are there as part and parcel of Swapo like we were together during the struggle we know the struggle was tough, many of our people died so we could not say it was not difficult,” said Zuma.
He further said: “It [struggle ]needed people who were ready to sacrifice. The struggle to change the country into prosperity is more difficult in its own way, it is a struggle that teaches you lessons as you go along.”
Swapo president Hage Geingob, later in the day addressed party members and encouraged them to unite and pull in the same direction in the spirit of Harambee and ensure that the party will continue to thrive for and prosper for years to come.
“Ours is a legacy of exemplary leadership, starting with our Founding Father, Comrade Sam Nujoma, the one who led us from exile back to freedom in our motherland. He was followed by Comrade Hifikepunye Pohamba, another icon of our struggle, a stabilizer, who consolidated and built upon our fight for democracy. It is a legacy, which I intend to extend and build upon as we take Swapo into the future of prosperity for all,” said Geingob.
